Increase in Motorcycle Thefts - Make your bike the hardest to steal, not the easiest

Dear Resident,

Over this weekend, your neighbourhood saw an increase in thefts of motorcycles, as well as a few unsuccessful attempts thankfully. Enquiries are ongoing and Kent Police will continue to do everything in their power to make sure offenders don't get away with this swift and often opportunistic crime type.

If you have any concerns about this, or anything else we can help with in the Community Safety Unit, please don't hesitate to get in touch with your Ward Officer. Or reply to this message and I'll get you in touch. In the meantime here are some tips below on how to make the lives of motorcycle thieves more difficult and better secure your pride and joy.

Most motorbike thefts happen in minutes, don't make it easy!

Use a disc lock EVERY time

Add a heavy chain to a fixed object (Sold Secure certified if you can)

Park in well-lit, busy areas

Cover your bike

Protect Your Bike - Simple Steps Work

Use more than one lock - Disc Lock, Chain and Padlock secured to a fixed object

Make noise and track it - Alarm, Immobiliser, GPS Tracker

Park Smart - Well-lit, busy area, secure home parking

Build habits - Remember Steering Lock, Remove Keys, Cover the Bike

Mark and Register

Use Datatag or similar systems - Advertise it on your bike with a sticker

If you witness any suspicious behaviour, remember to call 101 or report it online via the Kent Police website.
